why does my macbook air get hot while streaming Netflix?

I was streaming a TV show from Netflix on my computer and I noticed that the bottom of the laptop began getting very hot. I also noticed that it was draining the battery as well. Any idea of what is going on?

Heat is generated during processor intensive activities.

“During processor intensive activities—such as processing HD video or playing a game that makes extensive use of the graphics processor—the fans speed up to provide additional airflow”.

This may be due to the poor quality graphics card that a MacBook has built in. I have a MacBook Air 2014 and mine gets very hot and loud because of the fans when I play games that use even the simplest graphics. Unfortunately if this is the case, then it's just one of those things you have to live with. However, I'm not sure, but I think that you may be able to buy a better graphics card if you have a MacBook Pro, but I'm not 100% sure.
